I don't want to be a HAMSTER anymore!!

I have been wondering for awhile now how I would start this blog or this part of my life I should say. So, after MANY unsuccessful attempts at sounding "smart," I have decided to just tell you the story of how I decided to spend the next 52 weeks of my rollercoaster life.
I was lying in bed a few nights ago contemplating how my life has become like a ferris wheel. I often say to my family that I feel like I am a hamster running on an exercise wheel, always going, never getting anywhere. In highschool, I pictured myself COMPLETELY different, you know, hugely successful with tons of money and a HOT bod! Now, please don't get me wrong. The best accomplishments I have in my life are my amazing hubby and three beautiful girls, but somehow, I feel I need to be doing more. Hence, my contemplating. So in the midst of me dreaming of my HOTTER self in my huge mansion eating dinner made from my personal chef I decided.....I AM A SNOB!!
That's it. Have you noticed all of the I's in the paragraph above? Yes, sad its true. It's time to put others before myself and see if some of those I's can be replaced. Truly, there is so been given to me. I need to give back. How is this accomplished? Through ONE service a week for a whole year!
Are you wondering why I am blogging about it? I promise I went back and forth on this, but finally decided I needed something, or someone, to report to. So, this blog is like my boss. Each week there will be a report on the service my family completed together, pictures, etc. about our adventures. Can't wait to get started!! Feel free to join in on some of our services. This is not only a journal for my family, but hopefully a little push for those who have wanted to BETTER themselves through service!
My hopes for this next year (besides putting aside the I's) are to teach my children the importance of serving others. I need them to know that the world does not revolve around them and to learn to value and appreciate what they have. We need to love everyone around us, wherever they are and whomever they are. We need to follow our Savior's call: "A new commandment I give unto you, That Ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that Ye are my disciples, if Ye have love one to another.
"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
HERE WE GO!!

My families first act of service will be Monday June, 13, 2011.
